Urban Pixels

A customized urban enclave.

The needs and ability to work at home are increasing, especially in a city like Amsterdam. This contemporary change goes along with personal needs which ask for customized dwellings and workspaces. To adapt to multiple needs and conditions, the design consist of three architectural elements: a vertical circulation space, a column structure that provides a free floor plan and a façade which determines shape and character. Together, these elements do not only create a framework which allows a large variety of dwelling typologies, but also determines the characteristic cubical form of the Urban Pixels. The urban configuration is designed on the basis of four urban elements: the Pixels that capture the contemporary needs to work at home, the ‘in between spaces’ which encourage interaction and synergy among users, the car as a connecting element between dwelling and the urban surrounding, and an public street that connects this new urban enclave with the public sphere.
